The Royal Lodge in Sagana, Kenya, built in 1949-1950, was a wedding gift to the Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh. In 1953 King George VI passed away while his daughter, the Duchess, was staying at the Sagana Lodge. She succeeded to the throne as Queen Elizabeth II.
