Newfoundland Hotel first opened on
July 1, 1926 in downtown
St. John's overlooking the harbor. In 1949 hotel ownership came under Canadian National Railway and the name was changed to
Hotel Newfoundland in the early 1960s. The 8-story hotel was demolished in 1983 and was replaced by a newly constructed hotel with the same name on an adjacent site.
